Apart from temples and pavilions, on the vast
Lianchihan scenic spot also is the Chouchai Wetland
Park. Once zoned as a city park, the 10-hectare
eco-friendly Chouchai Wetland is a restoration wetland
brought out by the urges of Wetlands Taiwan. A 5-year
Jacanas Coming Home project began in May of 2003
on this freshwater wetland, as well as efforts to
rehabilitate aquatic plants and vegetables, working to
convert the area into an ecological germplasma bank in
the Zuoying District. Feasibility studies for an aquatic
park and explication & educational facilities on this site
are currently underway too.
The Jacanas returned to the Chouchai Wetland at the
end of 2004. Now more than 65 species of birds and
assortments of aquatic plants and varieties of frogs are
found here as well.
