The Love River is a small river canal that originates in
Renwu Township of Kaohsiung County, and flows
through Kaohsiung City into Kaohsiung Harbor.
Dedicated governmental efforts to treat this once
heavily polluted river has transformed it into a popular
tourist attraction with spectacular sceneries along the
riverbanks especially at nighttime. The Love River
was selected to host the Taiwan Lantern Festival
back-to-back in 2001 and again in 2002
In the very early days the area around the Love River
was swampland, and it wasnt until 400 years ago
did the river gradually take shape due to natural runoffs
and sedimentation. However as Han settlements were
in the habit of referring river routes wide enough
for vessels to navigate through as harbors in the olden
days, this area was called a variety of names according
to their geographic locations. This river was not officially named until the Japanese Occupation V The Dagou River. However when the Japanese changed Dagou into Kaohsiung in 1920, this river was renamed Kaohsiung River. |
