This park, covering the three-hectare wetland area
between Cheng Ching Lake, Cheng Shiu University,
and Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in the
Niaosung District of Kaohsiung County, is the first park
themed as a constructed wetland dedicated to wildlife
conservation, and moonlight as a tourist attraction. More
than 93 species of birds, 250-plus kinds of inspects
and no fewer than 340 varieties of plants call this
natural observation and educational facility home.
Developed from a sinking pool of the Cheng Ching
Lake Branch of the Taiwan Water Supply Company,
originally designed to precipitate sediments from
wastewater exhausting from Cheng Ching Lake Water
Treatment Plant, the Niaosung Wetland project came
into fruition thorough strong efforts of green advocacy
groups. Works converting it into a conservation area
began in June 1999 and was completed in the same month one year later. The Niaosung Wetland Park was opened on September 24, 2000.
