The Hsitzuwan Bay is located in a scenic area west of
Kaohsiung, roughly 20 minutes drive from the city
center, at the southwest foothill of Chiashan (Mt. Chia).
With the Cijin Peninsula stretching southward, the beach itself has great natural beauty.
One of the Eight Sights of Taiwan during Japanese
occupation
In 1927, the Taiwan New Daily Times, a northern
newspaper with the largest circulation of the time,
invited its readers to vote on their choice of the Eight
Sights of Taiwan. The chosen spots were: Keelungs
Shugang, Danshui, Mt. Pahsien, Sun Moon Lake,
Alishan, Shoushan, Ouluanbi, and Taroko Gorge
Hsitzuwan Bay is about 20 minutes drive from city
center, the swimming beach is accessible via either
Gushan Road at the mouth of Hsitzuwan Tunnel, proceed through the campus of the National Sun Yat-sen University, which is situated within the Hsitzuwan Scenic Area, or by Bus 99 and alight at the stop bearing the beachs name.
The closest station to Hsitzuwan Bay is Kaohsiung Harbor Train Station (the old Kaohsiung Train Station) for now, and its only for cargo deliveries, for more information please contact the Station. A planned MRT station (Orange Line) at the Hsitzuwan Bay is in progress and is expected to be completed and come into operation in 2008. The Hsitzuwan Bay is also reachable by water, as the famous sightseeing Cijin V Gushan Cruise Line operated by the Kaohsiung Harborsteam Ship Limited, is located merely 500 km from the Hsitzuwan Tunnel.
